About Our School

Pineview Elementary School accommodates over 300 students in grades pre-school through first grade. Pineview employs highly qualified teachers with Jill Wachal serving as principal. We believe in providing a safe and caring environment that promotes opportunity and growth for all students. A goal at Pineview is to make learning as student-centered as possible. Many programs are in place to encourage growth through developmentally appropriate activities. Caring educators promote the development of life-long learners with hands-on activities and the use of the latest technology. Pineview students are also provided with many enrichment activities through music, physical education, STEAM, TAG for all, library, and art.

Pineview Elementary School believes that when we work together with families to support learning, our students will not only succeed in school, but throughout life. We are implementing and supporting programs that reach out to involve parents more directly in their children's education.

One of our main academic emphases at Pineview is the teaching of reading. Our reading instruction includes both teacher-directed, small group skills instruction and the activities and strategies most often associated with literature-based, integrated language arts instruction.

There is sufficient guidance now available from research about how children best learn to read and about how successful reading programs work to ensure that virtually every child will learn to read well. We at Pineview support a balanced approach to reading that is organized, systematic and has explicit skills that include phonemic awareness (sounds in words), phonics, decoding, spelling, vocabulary and comprehension skills to address the needs of readers. Pineview's literature, language and comprehension program includes a balance of oral and written language and ongoing diagnosis that informs teaching and assessment that ensures accountability. Pineview also provides a powerful intervention program that provides additional support for children at risk of reading failure by meeting their instructional needs.

History

The original Pineview building was built in 1935. The north wing was built in 1935. The north wing addition was completed in 1955 and the west wing, completed in 1999 added 4 kindergarten classrooms, a preschool classroom, a boost-up classroom, a K-Prep classroom, restroom and several office spaces.

Schedules:
The first bell rings at 8:15 a.m. with opening exercises taking place at 8:20 a.m. (tardy bell rings). All students have a morning recess. Kindergarten-Prep and Kindergarten eat lunch from 11:15 a.m. - 11:40 a.m. with recess to follow until 12:05 p.m. First grade lunch is from 11:50 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and recess is from 12:15 p.m. until 12:40 p.m. Dismissal time is 3:15 p.m.

Attendance:
Good attendance is a must! A child developing a good attendance habit will benefit from this discipline for a lifetime. It enables a child to stay current with new learning and to avoid becoming discouraged from missing out on skill development. Being on time each day is very important.

Communication:
We believe that communcation is of great importance at Pineview to keep families and community members well-informed. Teachers use Seesaw, Facebook, and newsletters to communicate ongoing activities and events. Mrs. Wachal will send a newsletter once per month with school news, as well as important dates.
