Handbooks
Fifth grade at Alden brings new opportunities for learning experiences. Students are able to demonstrate their musical talents by enrolling in band for the first time; they experience first hand how to run a community at Junior Achievement Biztown in Des Moines, and they participate in DARE.
CKLA Reading:
For reading students dive into a variety of social studies and science topics at their academic level. Students will use ideas from the literature to create opinion, narrative, and informational writings.

Illustrative Math:
Students start the year learning about concrete concepts such as measurement and use those skills to continue to develop more abstract skills throughout the year. They work collaboratively with their peers to solve problems daily.
In addition to the science content in reading, students continue to learn about the interdependence of systems in the world around us and expand those ideas to learning about the universe.
